BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was confirmed on Tuesday during a special session of the Raleigh County Commission that employees for the county will not see a monthly increase in payments for their PEIA coverage.
Tuesday’s special session – organized to address a Community Connections grant application, as well as multiple resolutions – opened with PEIA update, though the announcement was not included as part of the special session agenda released prior to the meeting itself.
While rates were expected to increase for PEIA policy holders, funds retained through the jail bill have made it possible to accommodate these policy holders in maintaining the current rates, according to Raleigh County Commission President Dave Tolliver.
“This is money that we saved from the jail bill to pay the extra $335,000 on the PEIA bill. Therefore, what that means is that the county employees will not have an increase in their PEIA insurance for this fiscal year,” he explained.
“Next year it will be addressed and that we’ll make a decision July 2024. But as of this fiscal year, the county has [taken] the recommendations of elected officials to not increase the salary of the price of the PEIA that the employees will pay. It will stay the same at $50 a month for Married; 25 for singles.”
Policy holders will therefore be secure with their current rates until the issue is revisited in the summer of 2024. Additional LOOTPRESS coverage for the Raleigh County area can be found here.
