HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man and woman were both arrested following a domestic dispute at 2523 Virginia Avenue on February 23, 2025, where one suspect allegedly brandished a knife during the altercation.
Police responded to a 911 call reporting that Derrick Harrison had assaulted Brianna Ashworth. Upon arrival, officers found Harrison outside the home, appearing frantic and stating he did not want to go back to jail. Officers observed that Harrison had a bloody nose and a freshly busted lip and detained him.
Inside the home, officers spoke with Ashworth, who stated that Harrison became angry when she rested her legs on him while they were lying in bed. She alleged that he then hit her in the left eye socket, which officers observed to be bruised and swollen.
Knife Threat Allegation
Witness Dakota Stanley told police he saw the altercation and attempted to intervene. He further stated that Harrison pulled a knife on him in a threatening manner. Another witness, Edward Shaffer, also reported seeing Harrison brandishing a knife toward Stanley.
Officers later recovered a knife matching Stanley’s description from Harrison.
Charges Filed
Harrison refused to make a statement, and all involved parties declined to provide written statements.
Due to Harrison’s injuries, Ashworth was charged with domestic battery. Harrison was also charged with domestic battery and brandishing a deadly weapon.
According to authorities, Harrison and Ashworth have been in an on-and-off relationship for several years. Both were taken into custody following the incident.
