ONA – The Woodrow Wilson boys finished second in the Class AAA division Saturday night at the 2021 St. Mary’s Medical Center Cross Country Festival sponsored by Cabell Midland High School.
Aiden Kneeland led the Flying Eagles with a seventh-place overall finish. Kneeland was followed by Brandon Canaday in 10th position and Josh Cormack crossed the line in 13th place.
Christian Saffouri (19), Connor Cormack (23), Robert Shirey (26) and Jonah Morgan (28) all finished inside the top-30 runners for Woodrow.
The Woodrow Wilson girls team placed seventh overall. Lauren Curtis led the Flying Eagles in 17th place.
In the Class AA/A boy’s division, Shady Spring tied for fourth, followed by Nicholas County and PikeView in sixth and seventh place respectfully. The Tigers tied the 2020 Class AA runner-ups, Fairmont Senior.
Jacob Dowdy led the Tigers with a third-place finish. Jaedan Holstein was 14th and Sam Jordan finished 22nd for Shady Spring. Jordan set a personal best Saturday with a time of 18:29.66
Alex Irvin was the Grizzlies top runner in 33rd place and Braden Ward led PikeView in 13th position.
Jacob Ellison from Wyoming East finished in 23rd position. His time of 18:32.35 was Ellison’s first race finishing under 19 minutes.
Natalie Barr and freshman Haley Johnson finished inside the top 30 for the girls Class AA/A event. Barr crossed the line 11th and Johnson finished 27th.
Woodrow Wilson and Shady Spring will run again Saturday at the Chick-fil-A Invitational in Mineral Wells. Wyoming East will take part in the Golden Bear Classic Friday in Beckley, presented by WVU Tech cross country.
