The Woodrow Wilson boys continued its Class AAA Region 3 cross country dominance Thursday, but Greenbrier East pulled off the upset in the girls race, beating the favored Flying Eagles by three points.
Aiden Kneeland from Woodrow continued his dominance on the trails in the boys race with an easy win over Ryan Bazzie from George Washington who finished second.
All five racers from Beckley finished inside the top-10 to defeat second-place GW by 55 points.
Brandon Canaday followed Kneeland in third place, while Robert Shirey and Michael Haddadin were sixth and seventh respectively. Jonah Morgan came home ninth.
St. Albans finished in third place to secure the final team spot in the next week’s state meet. Skylar Hudnall from Riverside was seventh to qualify as an individual.
Abigail Londeree led the upset charge for the Spartans finishing second overall along Abby Dixon who placed fourth. Annie Whited was 11th, followed by Luella Mansheim in 12th and Maddie Lilly in 13th.
Lauren Curtis placed fifth and Cecilia Lindley sixth for Woodrow Wilson. Kyndall Ince was ninth overall with Hannah Keiling one spot back. Madison Farrish was 15th.
Individual qualifiers were Hayley Collins from Princeton and Chrissa Mayfield from Oak Hill. George Washington was third in the team competition to qualify for the state meet.
Charleston Catholic won going away in the Class A Region 3 races. The boys topped second place Webster County, while the girls finished ahead of Richwood.
Only two team qualified in Class A.
Isaac Collins from Catholic was the regional champion with Dakota Pettry from Summers County and Wyatt Lilly from James Monroe earning individual state meet berths.
Charleston Catholic’s Bella Boggs was the girls regional champion with Baylee Jarrett from Richwood finishing fourth. Jarrett’s teammates Carlee Dillard and Kelsey Davis came home ninth and 10th respectively. Sophie Mullens was 13th for the Lumberjacks and Reagan Raffo was 17th overall.
Sarah Turner from Summers County repeated as an individual qualifier finishing sixth. She will be joined by Katie Collins from James Monroe who crossed the line in fifth place.
The state cross-country meet will be held at Cabell Midland High School October 29.
