Pastor David Allen Sneed, 83, of Fayetteville, WV died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. After suffering from several health issues, he is now in his eternal home.
He was born on May 8, 1940 in Witcher, Kanawha Co., WV. He was the only child of the late William E. and Pauline Keeney Sneed.
At the age of 9, David was converted at Witcher Baptist Church and baptized October 1949.
He was a 1958 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV.
Feeling God’s call to the gospel ministry in his youth, David was licensed and ordained at the Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston, WV. After receiving his B.A. degree in 1962 from Georgetown College in Kentucky, he attended Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia, where he received his B.D. degree in 1965.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carla Childers Sneed, whom he married June 18, 1977; his two children, Leah (Justin) McKinniss and Jonathan Sneed; and his grandchildren, Baylen Mulcay, Knox Mulcay, Arlo McKinniss, and a step granddaughter, Hadley McKinniss.
David’s love of history led him to many years of research in family genealogy and Baptist history. He compiled histories of the Sunday Road Baptist Church and the Oak Hill Baptist Church.
David served as pastor of Fayetteville Baptist and Sunday Road Baptist at Hico, WV; Associate Pastor at Calvary in Charleston; and Interims at South Charleston, Nitro, Minden, Scarbro, Mt. Hope, and Oak Hill.
He served over 50 years on the WV Baptist Historical Society Bd. of Directors. He held offices of Treasurer, President, and Archivist, being honored as Archivist Emeritus in 2021.
In 2019, David was named Pastor Emeritus of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member.
His service will be held at the Fayetteville Baptist Church on Friday, April 19, at 2:00 pm with visitation from 12:00-2:00.
