SHADY SPRING, WV (LOOTPRESS) Delegate Brandon Steele, (R)- Raleigh, released the following statement regarding the cancellation of the Shady Spring Homecoming Parade.
“It is unthinkable that the Shady Spring Homecoming Parade is being cancelled due to requirements set forth by the Department of Highways. This parade has been a mainstay of the community for years, and includes the High School, Middle School, and Shady Spring Youth Athletics. It is a homecoming celebration for the entirety of Southeastern Raleigh County. The people of that community have been working for months on the parade. Their hardwork should not be stymied by a faceless bureaucracy.
If the roads of the parade route are inadequate to support the homecoming parade for our community, that is the State’s fault for failing to improve the roads for one of the fastest growing communities in West Virginia. Countless improvement projects have layed stale on the shelf while this vibrant and growing community of hardworking West Virginians has strived to improve and enrichen their community.
I am calling upon the Governor to get the Department of Highways in line and fix this situatuon. Shady Spring should not have to cancel its homecoming parade. I have already reached out to members of the Governor’s staff to fix this issue.”
