CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued a Winter Storm Watch for portions of West Virginia, effective from Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening.
Residents are advised to brace for heavy snow accumulations and hazardous travel conditions.
A cold front is sweeping through the region today, bringing widespread rain.
By midweek, a second reinforcing front will move east, transitioning rain into snow, particularly in the mountains.
- Lowlands: Expect 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation.
- Northeast mountains: Snowfall totals could range between 4 to 8 inches, with higher amounts possible at elevations above 3,500 feet.
The NWS warns of difficult to impossible travel conditions during the storm.
Gusty winds are also expected to intensify midweek, potentially lingering into the weekend.
