ABU DHABI, UAE (LOOTPRESS) — The Walt Disney Company is expanding its global footprint with the announcement of a new Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi — its first in the Middle East — in collaboration with Miral, the emirate’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences.
Set to rise on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s premier leisure and entertainment hub, the new waterfront resort will be the seventh Disney theme park resort globally. The ambitious project aims to fuse Disney’s world-famous storytelling and characters with the UAE capital’s rich cultural heritage, architectural innovation, and stunning coastline.
The announcement was made jointly by Disney and Miral, highlighting a major step forward in both tourism and entertainment in the region. The project will be designed and creatively led by Disney’s Imagineering team, with Miral overseeing development and operations. The resort will feature themed accommodations, immersive attractions, Disney-branded dining and retail experiences, and one-of-a-kind entertainment designed to reflect both authentic Disney magicand the distinct identity of Abu Dhabi.
“Abu Dhabi is where heritage meets innovation,” said His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral. “Our partnership with Disney is creating a whole new world of imagination. Together, we are building an experience that will inspire generations, blending the creative excellence of Disney with the cultural richness and visionary leadership of the UAE.”
Disney CEO Robert A. Iger called the new park a landmark moment for the company. “This will be a Disney destination unlike any other — authentically Disney, yet distinctly Emirati,” he said. “It’s a bold vision that combines timeless stories and characters with the vibrancy and creativity of Abu Dhabi. We are thrilled to bring Disney magic to a region filled with appreciation for the arts and imagination.”
Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, added that the Abu Dhabi resort will be Disney’s most advanced and interactive park to date, set against a stunning waterfront backdrop. “This will be a celebration of innovation and creativity. The setting allows us to tell stories in new ways, connecting with families and guests from across the globe like never before.”
The strategic location of the UAE — within a four-hour flight of one-third of the world’s population — positions the new Disney resort as a key gateway for global tourism. Abu Dhabi and Dubai serve as major air travel hubs, with more than 120 million passengers passing through annually.
Miral Group CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi emphasized the resort’s significance for Yas Island and the wider region. “This marks a historic milestone in our mission to establish Yas Island as a world-class destination. With Disney, we are pushing the boundaries of innovation and storytelling to deliver unforgettable experiences.”

While a timeline for the park’s construction and opening has not yet been released, the announcement signals a major shift in Disney’s international strategy and underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing status as a global hub for entertainment, culture, and tourism.
Upon completion, the Disney resort in Abu Dhabi is expected to draw millions of visitors annually, support long-term economic growth, and redefine themed entertainment in the Middle East.
