WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Gov. Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency for all 55 West Virginia counties as emergency response efforts continue across the state following widespread severe weather and flooding.
Late Tuesday night, Morrisey said state and local agencies continue working alongside county officials to assist communities impacted by severe flooding.
According to the governor, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has now been involved in 33 water rescues. Additional personnel from the West Virginia National Guard, West Virginia State Police, West Virginia Division of Highways and other agencies are supporting response operations in the hardest-hit areas.
The statewide State of Emergency was declared after severe storms produced flash flooding, landslides, road closures and other dangerous conditions across West Virginia.
Officials continue to urge residents in affected areas to monitor local emergency information, avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through high water, warning that conditions can change rapidly and that safety should remain the top priority.
The State of Emergency remains in effect for 30 days unless it is terminated by a subsequent proclamation.
