FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A dog named Rover is recovering after being shot and left critically injured, according to the Fayette County Humane Society (FCHS).
The organization said it received a distressing call from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday evening, reporting that a dog had been shot.
FCHS staff members rushed to the scene, where they found Rover lying motionless in the grass and bleeding.
They transported him to Fayette Veterinary Hospital while trying to control his bleeding. On the way, Rover went into shock, suffering seizures as a result of the trauma.
At the hospital, X-rays revealed that the bullet had shattered Rover’s entire left leg. The damage was so severe that bone fragments were scattered throughout the limb.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Rover was transferred to Kanawha Valley Veterinary Emergency Center for around-the-clock care.
An FCHS staff member volunteered to drive him there despite already having completed a full work shift.
Rover’s medical costs are estimated between $2,800 and $3,700.
The Fayette County Humane Society is now asking for public support to help cover the expenses.
