A downed tree on U.S. Route 60 Thursday night has left more than 1,400 Appalachian Power customers without electricity and forced the closure of a section of the highway in the Rainelle area.
According to Greenbrier County Homeland Security & Emergency Management, U.S. Route 60 near Central Avenue in Rainelle is closed for an undisclosed amount of time due to a tree and downed power lines.
Appalachian Power reported that 1,467 customers were without power as of Thursday night. The utility’s estimated restoration time is 6 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while crews work to clear the roadway and restore power.
