FRANKFORD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A potentially intoxicated driver barreled through an active accident scene early Thursday morning, narrowly missing several emergency personnel in what the Frankford Volunteer Fire Department is calling one of the most dangerous on-scene incidents they’ve faced.
According to a statement released by the department, the man drove past six emergency vehicles — including three police cruisers, two fire trucks, and a rollback wrecker — all with emergency lights activated.
One law enforcement vehicle was reportedly partially blocking the road when the driver sped past and crashed directly into the original motor vehicle accident (MVA) scene.
Thanks to the quick actions of firefighters and law enforcement officers already on the scene, no first responders were injured.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old David Figueroa, was taken into custody at the scene, charged with DUI, and transported to Southern Regional Jail.
“This intoxicated individual came within inches and seconds of catastrophically changing multiple first responders’ lives,” the department said in its public post.
The department emphasized that while they have seen careless behavior from drivers in the past, this incident was unlike anything they’ve experienced.
They issued a stern reminder to the public: “If you need a drink, don’t drive.”
