UPSHUR COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A single-vehicle crash early Monday morning caused significant damage and a power outage in Upshur County, according to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 1:30 a.m. on April 7, deputies responded to a crash involving a gray Ford F-150 near 3220 Old Elkins Road.
Investigators determined the truck had veered off the road at high speed, striking a tree, several mailboxes, a chain-link fence and gate, and ultimately a power pole.
The truck came to rest hanging on the power lines of a Mon Power utility pole.
The crash resulted in a power outage in the surrounding area.
The driver, identified as Joshua Paul Woods, admitted to consuming a 12-pack of alcoholic beverages and showed signs of heavy intoxication, including extremely slurred speech, authorities said.
Woods was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by Upshur County EMS for injuries sustained in the crash.
Deputy Lamb is leading the ongoing investigation.
The Buckhannon Police Department, Buckhannon Fire Department, and Upshur County EMS also responded to the scene.
