BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office conducted two DUI checkpoints over Memorial Day weekend, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, cash, and a firearm.
The checkpoints were held Friday night into Saturday, May 23–24, on Grade Road at the intersection with Forever Green Drive, and Saturday night into Sunday, May 24–25, on U.S. Route 11 North in front of Marlowe School.
Both operated from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
A total of 1,104 vehicles passed through the checkpoints. Deputies conducted eight field sobriety tests and made three DUI arrests.
Other results included four arrests for driving with a revoked license, one felony arrest, eight misdemeanor arrests, and seven drug-related arrests.
Officers also issued 78 citations and seized approximately 150 grams of marijuana and 26 grams of methamphetamine. One gun and $1,159 in cash were confiscated in connection with a drug arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office received grant funding from the Commission on Drunk Driving Prevention (CDDP) to support these operations.
The quarterly grant covers officer salaries and the use of a specialized DUI trailer equipped for checkpoint activity, allowing for at least three checkpoints every four months throughout Berkeley County.
