PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mercer County man has incurred several charges following a vehicle accident on Wednesday.
As reported by Cpl. Addair of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, Cpl. Addair and Deputy T. Lacy responded to the Cornbread Ridge Rd. area with regard to a single-car motor vehicle accident.
Upon the arrival of authorities, EMS was already on-scene along with a male who “appeared to be extremely intoxicated and was trying to get the vehicle out of the ditch.”
The subject, identified as Ronald Rose, is reported to have instantly become “agitated and aggressive,” and reportedly became belligerent, “approaching deputies in a hostile manner.” Rose is said to have been staggering and generally unable to walk on his own.
During EMS assessment the subject’s hostile behavior continued, and he pulled pocket knife from his front pocket and “opened it aggressively at an EMT.”
After being directed to put the knife down, Rose reportedly “threw the knife and balled his fist up at deputies.” He swung at Cpl. Addair and then at Deputy Lacy, at which point Cpl. Addair reports assisting the male to the ground to gain control of his hands. The subject reportedly continued to resist, tucking his hands under his torso when instructed to provide his hands for restraint.
Once restrained, the subject is reported to have begun kicking deputies, behavior which continued as he was being assisted to the patrol car. Once secured within the vehicle, Rose was transported to the sheriff’s department office for processing. He continued his refusal to cooperated once at the department, refusing to walk on his own and requiring assistance from additional deputies.
As a result of the subject’s combative behavior and complaint of sugar levels, a medical assessment was conducted at the sheriff’s department by EMS prior to a jail transport. The returned blood sugar levels were 116.
Ronald Rose faces charges of Battery on an Officer, Assault on an Officer, Obstructing, and Assault on an EMS official.
