MOUNT HOPE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Though it may have only been in the mid-forties on Saturday morning in Mount Hope, the trout were biting during the annual Alpine Ministries Fishing Derby. Alpine Ministries, an outdoor adventure ministry on the campus of Appalachian Bible College, hosted its annual fishing derby for children under the age of twelve. Program Director Andrew Davis said that while attendance was down this year, it continues to be a great event that Alpine Ministries seeks to put on for area youth.
The pond was stocked with approximately 250 pounds of trout in preparation for the event.  Sponsors for the event included PC Outdoors in Crab Orchard, the West Virginia Department of Tourism, New River Engineering, and Pruden Endodontics of Beckley.  Door prizes donated by the sponsor PC Outdoors included fishing rods, equipment, and bait.  Each child was also provided a gift bag with items donated by each sponsor  Each child caught their limit of 3 trout.  Keith Kemper of Kemper Hill Farms also cleaned and prepared the fish caught by each child.
Alpine Ministries is a ministry of Appalachian Bible College that provides outdoor experiences through Christian ministry to students of the school, church groups throughout the country, and the public. Activities include cabins and camping, kayaking, whitewater rafting, disc golf, swimming, rock climbing, and zip lines. Appalachian Bible College is a private Christian University with its main campus in Mount Hope, WV.
