BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Some students at Woodrow Wilson High School walked out of class Monday, October 19, over concerns about limited access to bathrooms during and between classes.
Students involved in the demonstration expressed frustration with what they described as restrictions on bathroom access throughout the school day.
Following the demonstration, Woodrow Wilson High School released a statement acknowledging the incident and addressing student concerns.
“We want to make our families aware that a student demonstration occurred today regarding existing school protocols.”
School officials emphasized that while students have the right to express their concerns, maintaining a safe learning environment remains a priority.
“Woodrow Wilson High School values student voice and encourages students to respectfully express their concerns and advocate for positive change. However, student safety remains our highest priority, and we strongly discourage students from leaving the safety and supervision of the school environment.”
According to the school, administrators plan to meet with student leaders to discuss their concerns and work toward a resolution.
“Our administration will be meeting with student leaders in the building to better understand their concerns, encourage constructive dialogue, and work collaboratively toward a positive resolution.”
The school also emphasized the importance of communication and cooperation between students and administrators.
“We appreciate the patience and support of our families as we work together to ensure that student voices are heard while maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.”
