CONNECTICUT (LOOTPRESS) – Two young children are currently in a Connecticut Intensive Care Unit after their father was apprehended by the police for allegedly attempting to drown them at a West Haven beach early on Saturday morning.
According to investigators, a West Haven Police Department patrol officer discovered an SUV parked at Dawson Avenue Beach at approximately 2:30 a.m. and heard a commotion from the water during the inspection.
The officer found Romney Desronvil, 41, with the two children in the water. The West Haven Police Department stated that as the officer approached the water, the man continued to move further away with the children while yelling at the officers to stay back.
It became evident at that point that the man was intentionally endangering his children’s lives.
Additional police officers and members of the fire department entered the water and were able to rescue the children, who were both under 3 years old, from their father. They then administered life-saving measures before rushing the children to the hospital.
Mayor Dorinda Borer later informed reporters that while the victims were displaying signs of improvement, they are still in critical condition.
She praised the courageous actions of Officers Williamson and Miller for their role in saving the children, saying, “They had guardian angels this morning.” Desronvil, a resident of Queens, New York, was taken into custody and charged with two counts each of attempted manslaughter and risk of injury.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be brought forth.
Back earlier this year, a father drowned in North Carolina while trying to rescue his children.
