FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A heroic achievement by a K-9 from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department was shared by Sheriff Mike Fridley.
On the night of June 29, 2024, deputies were responding to a report of a missing elderly person who had been gone for six hours after leaving home on foot.
Fayette County Corporal Wickline and K-9 Nala, a 2-year-old German Short-Haired Pointer certified for Narcotics and Tracking, were called to help. K-9 Nala successfully tracked a scent trail for approximately 700 yards through the woods and led deputies to an old hunting shack where the missing individual was found.
The door had become jammed, trapping the person inside.
“To follow a six-hour-old scent trail is amazing for any K-9,” said Sheriff Fridley, a previous K-9 handler himself, “we work hard training with our K-9s, and it showed last night with Nala.”
