FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Robson man faces first-degree murder charges out of Fayette County after a deceased body of a white male inside a camper was found at the end of Carver Street.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, on Thursday, February 18, 20201, deputies were notified of the incident and responded to the scene. The 911 caller stated that Doug Greene had come to his residence and stated he had shot Craig Cottle, his neighbor. Greene told deputies that he had shot Cottle.
Greene was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department for questioning and stated that he was at the camper drinking a beer with the victim, Craig Anthony Cottle, and a verbal argument took place. Greene admitted to shooting Craig Cottle with a 22-magnum revolver in the head. Greene stated, “it was either him or me.”
The day before, on February 17, 20021, Doug Green told deputies that Craig Cottle committed arson at his camper in December of 2020.
Deputies returned to the scene with a search warrant and observed at least two separate gunshot wounds to Craig Cottle’s body. There was no evidence of an altercation inside the camper.
Based on the preliminary facts, Greene allegedly went to the camper belonging to Cottle with the intent to confront him about his camper armed with a revolver. A verbal argument ensued, and Greene shot Cottle twice, causing his death.
Greene is charged with first-degree murder and is currently in Southern Regional Jail under no bond.
