MONTGOMERY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Montgomery man is facing a felony charge after allegedly assaulting his wife in a violent domestic incident that left her bloodied and unconscious, according to a criminal complaint filed in Fayette County.
Just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, officers from the Montgomery Police Department responded to a home on South Early Street after a juvenile reported that his stepfather, Shane Edward Tackett, was inside hitting his mother.
Upon arrival, officers found the juvenile waiting outside and quickly entered the home, where they detained Tackett.
Inside, officers encountered a disturbing scene.
The victim was covered in blood and told officers that Tackett had repeatedly struck her in the face and strangled her with a wooden board.
She stated that during the assault, she lost consciousness due to being unable to breathe.
Police observed visible injuries, including swelling to the victim’s face and marks on her neck. A piece of blood-covered wooden trim, believed to be the object used in the strangulation, was also recovered.
The home showed signs of destruction, including broken glass, damaged walls, a broken TV, and blood throughout multiple rooms.
Three minor children were present during the incident. Although none were physically injured, officers noted that all the children were covered in blood.
Child Protective Services responded to the scene and relocated the victim and her children due to the severe conditions in the home.
All individuals were checked by emergency medical personnel.
Both the victim and Tackett confirmed they are married and have a child together.
According to the criminal complaint, Tackett has two prior domestic battery convictions—one in Boone County in 2022 and another in Fayette County in 2024.
As a result, authorities are seeking to charge him with third-offense domestic battery, a felony under West Virginia law.
