FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Fayette County man faces charges in relation to a juvenile minor with whom he was purported to have been in a relationship.
According to Anthony Ciliberti, Jr., Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Fayette County, on December 5, 2021, officers with the Fayette County Police Department responded to reports of a domestic violence incident involving a 17-year-old female.
The victim informed authorities that she had been in a relationship with the male involved – identified as Casey R. Shelton, 23 years old of Fayetteville, WV – for roughly six months.
The victim is reported to have confronted Shelton on November 30, 2021, due to her belief that he had been cheating on her. Becoming angry with the victim, Shelton is said to have thrown her to the ground and choked her.
Several days later, Shelton is reported to have become belligerent with her, at which point she departed the residence and contacted 911 and a domestic violence protective order was obtained on the victim’s behalf.
The suspect was served with the order, at which he point he proceeded to send threatening messages to the victim who, during a follow-up interview, revealed the Shelton had recorded explicit videos of her. This was confirmed during a subsequent search of Shelton’s cell phone, revealing him to have been in possession of multiple sexually explicit videos and images of the victim.
On November 2, 2023, Casey R. Shelton was sentenced to prison by Circuit Judge Thomas H. Ewing for ten years for each of two counts of the felony offense of use of a minor in filming sexually explicit conduct, one year in prison for the misdemeanor offense of domestic battery, and one year in prison for each of two counts of the misdemeanor offense of violation of a domestic violence protective order.
Shelton plead guilty to these offenses on April 24, 2023, and Judge Ewing ordered the sentences to be served concurrently. As such, Shelton must serve a minimum of two years and six months in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
Once he is released, Shelton must serve twenty-five years of sex offender extended supervised release. The period of extended supervised release can be changed to a prison sentence if the terms of the release are violated. Additionally, Shelton must register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
