MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Cade Kincaid, a Midland Trail High School graduate from Fayetteville, is among four finalists vying to become West Virginia University’s 71st Mountaineer mascot.
Kincaid, a junior accounting major in the Honors College, will showcase his school spirit in a cheer-off during the WVU men’s basketball game against TCU on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 9 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.
Finalists were selected by a committee of faculty, staff, and students based on an essay and interview process.
They will be judged on their crowd engagement and ability to lead traditional game cheers while donning the Mountaineer’s iconic buckskins, coonskin cap, and rifle.
Kincaid is minoring in finance, business data analytics, and business ethics and prosperity.
He serves as a peer mentor and ambassador for the WVU John Chambers College of Business and Economics and is a member of Delta Sigma Pi, through which he participates in community service projects benefiting the Ronald McDonald House and Empty Bowls Monongalia.
“At WVU, we climb mountains for adventure, for sport, and figuratively in the pursuit of bettering our University and state,” Kincaid said.
“As a result, I have accomplished great things both professionally and recreationally, and I can’t think of a better way to give back to WVU and the Mountain State than serving as the next Mountaineer mascot.”
Other finalists include Thaiddeus “Ted” Dillie, a third-year medical student from Weirton; Rachel Morgan, a senior marketing major from Bridgeport; and Justin Waybright, a mining engineering major from Parkersburg who currently serves as the alternate Mountaineer mascot.
The winner will be announced during WVU’s basketball game against UCF on March 8, with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m. in the Coliseum.
