FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Fayette County residents affected by severe storms and flooding in August may now qualify for federal disaster assistance following the approval of a major disaster declaration by President Donald Trump.
The declaration, requested by West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey last month, provides federal assistance to eligible residents in Fayette, Harrison and Kanawha counties who sustained damage during storms from August 14 through August 18, 2026.
Through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), eligible individuals and households may receive financial assistance for home repairs, temporary housing and other uninsured or underinsured losses resulting from the storms.
Fayette County residents who experienced storm-related damage during the designated period are encouraged to apply for assistance.
Residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
Applications can also be submitted in person at Disaster Recovery Centers. Locations and operating hours for those centers are still being established and will be announced when available.
The West Virginia Emergency Management Division is encouraging all eligible residents who sustained damage to apply for assistance.
