CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Five West Virginia University students studying in the field of landscape and horticulture will be receiving $5,000 each, totaling at $25,000 in scholarship awards through the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association (WVNLA) Marcus W. Rennix scholarship program.
The in-state students will be recognized in the coming months at the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association’s Winter Symposium, scheduled to take place on February 11, 2025, in Charleston, WV.
Among the West Virginia University scholars to be recognized at the annual event and through $25,000 in scholarship awards through the Marcus W. Rennix Scholarship are:
Chelsea Elliot of Bridgeport, a senior student majoring in Landscape Architecture
Hailey Land of New Martinsville, a senior student studying Horticulture
Alaira Hudson of Davis, a senior student majoring in Landscape Architecture
Penelope Edwards of Morgantown, a senior student majoring in Landscape Architecture
Samuel Glazier of Charleston, a senior student studying Landscape Architecture
Two of the individuals to be recognized – Hailey Lane of New Martinsville and Samuel Glazier of Charleston – were recipients of the Rennix scholarship in 2024. Both students reapplied for the award after meeting the necessary guidelines established to do so, and will each receive $5,000 of the $25,000 in scholarship awards made available through the program.
The West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Assocation places a priority on scholarship awards to citizens of the State of West Virginia wherever they may be studying as a means of providing a boost to the nursery and landscape industry, according to West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association Executive Director, Julie Robinson.
Applications for the Marcus W. Rennix Scholarship are pulled each year from the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association website on what is said to be a rolling annual basis. Those seeking to apply for funds are required to be studying landscape architecture, horticulture, or nursery and greenhouse management.
Students applying for the awards must also be in-state residents who have effectively completed a minimum of half the required courses in ornamental horticulture or landscape architecture. These students must also have maintained a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average in order to qualify.
