WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Greenbrier County woman is facing charges after deputies say she allegedly strangled another woman into unconsciousness during a violent domestic incident Saturday afternoon.
According to the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched around 1:31 p.m. on February 21, 2026, to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on Tanis Drive. A 14-year-old caller told 911 that two women — identified as Jessica Vandall and a victim — were fighting on the front porch and that one had the other by the neck.
While officers were en route, dispatchers reported the victim’s screams were becoming weaker, raising concerns she may have been seriously injured or strangled. EMS was placed on standby and White Sulphur Springs Police were requested to assist due to the potential life-threatening situation.
When deputies arrived shortly before 1:45 p.m., they located a woman lying face-down on the porch, apparently unconscious and with blood visible in her hair.
Officers forced entry into the home after receiving no response at the door and detained Vandall inside. Deputies also located several other individuals in the residence.
Investigators say witnesses inside admitted they heard the assault and the victim’s screams but did not intervene, instead turning up music to drown out the noise.
Deputies provided aid to the victim, who was found gasping for air and unresponsive. She began regaining responsiveness shortly before EMS arrived and was transported by ambulance for treatment after the local medical center was reportedly full. She was treated and released later that day.
The victim told deputies she had gone to the residence with her niece looking for her mother’s food stamp card when Vandall allegedly attacked her, pushing her down a hallway, beating her, and ultimately placing her in what deputies described as a rear naked chokehold, causing her to lose consciousness.
Authorities noted the maneuver is a potentially lethal strangulation technique capable of cutting off blood or oxygen flow.
Vandall was arrested at the scene. Deputies transported her to the hospital for medical clearance, where officials say she became extremely hostile and had to be sedated multiple times before being cleared.
She was later booked into Southern Regional Jail without further incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
