FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Dr. Margaret Staggers, a longtime physician and former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, passed away Thursday morning, according to sources.
She was a resident of Fayetteville who represented Fayette County in the Legislature for eight years.

Staggers was elected in 2006 to the West Virginia House of Delegates as a Democrat, where she served until 2014, representing what became District 32.
During her tenure, she held several leadership and committee roles, including Assistant Majority Whip, vice chair of the Roads and Transportation Committee, and vice chair of the Committee on Enrolled Bills during the 79th Legislature.
She also served on the Government Organization, Health and Human Resources, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security, and House Select Committee on Redistricting.
Born in Patuxent, Maryland, Staggers later made her home in Fayetteville. She earned her medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1969. Her medical career included work as an adjunct faculty member at Mountain State University and as medical director for the Whitesville Fire Department.
Staggers was active in professional medical organizations, serving as president of the West Virginia chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, as well as a past chair and member of the West Virginia chapter of the American Heart Association.
She was also a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
She was widely known in southern West Virginia for her commitment to public service, health care, and her community.
