CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Joshua W. Fitzpatrick, a 42-year-old former TV meteorologist who worked for local stations and most recently served as a meteorologist in Virginia, was arrested in Ohio this week on felony charges tied to a sexual extortion investigation, authorities announced earlier this week.
The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) began investigating Fitzpatrick on February 28, 2025, after a victim reported being extorted following a consensual sexual encounter.
The victim alleged Fitzpatrick threatened to release a video recorded without their knowledge or consent.
On April 9, 2025, ACPD secured warrants for Fitzpatrick’s arrest, charging him with felony sexual extortion (§18.2-59.1) and unlawful creation of an image (§18.2-386.1).
Investigators later discovered he had relocated to Ohio shortly after the probe began.
With assistance from Ohio authorities, Fitzpatrick was arrested on April 22 and is now awaiting extradition to Virginia.
ACPD detectives believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information or related encounters involving Fitzpatrick to come forward.
Detective M. Schneider of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division can be reached at 434-296-5807.
Fitzpatrick previously worked as a meteorologist at West Virginia stations WSAZ and WOAY before transitioning to a Virginia-based TV role, which he held until recently.
His arrest has drawn attention due to his public profile in local media.
The case remains under investigation.
