OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Federal funding has been allocated to transform the former Oak Hill High School building into affordable housing.
On Friday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) helped secure a number of West Virginia priorities in the bipartisan appropriations package.
They also included $191,265,370 in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests, or earmarks, for 151 West Virginia projects.
Both Manchin and Capito say they are glad to have secured the funding for various projects in West Virginia and fund the federal government.
“As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I fight every day to ensure West Virginia receives the federal resources we need to build stronger communities, spur economic opportunity, and strengthen our energy and national security,” Manchin said.
“I was proud to be able to ensure these bills have West Virginia priorities included, and I look forward to completing the remaining bills to conclude the FY24 budget process soon,” Capito said.
One of those projects included funding for Southern Appalachian Labor School (SALS) to transform the former Oak Hill High School building in downtown into affordable apartments.
SALS has received $975,000 for the renovation and construction project.
The project is being called the “Historic Oak Hill School New River Apartments.”
