GLEN DALE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Former West Virginia State Senator Mike Maroney has entered an Alford plea in connection with an incident that occurred in August 2024 at a Glen Dale video lottery parlor.
The plea, entered Wednesday in Marshall County Magistrate Court, allows Maroney to maintain his innocence while acknowledging that prosecutors have sufficient evidence that could likely lead to a conviction if the case went to trial.
The charges stem from an incident in which Glen Dale Police alleged that Maroney engaged in lewd behavior while using a video lottery machine. The case had been scheduled for jury trial next week.
As part of the resolution, Maroney was fined $250 and sentenced to time served. In addition, he was ordered to serve seven days in jail due to a bond violation after failing to attend and pay for court-ordered drug rehabilitation. He had already spent 30 days under home confinement prior to the hearing.
Maroney’s legal team had previously attempted to block media access to court proceedings, but the case moved forward publicly in the magistrate court.
