GRANDVIEW, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The public is invited to celebrate the musical traditions of Appalachia during the annual Sounds of Appalachia event at the Cliffside Amphitheater at Grandview in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve on Tuesday, June 30.
The free event will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will feature live performances by local musicians, living history presentations, and interpretive programs led by National Park Service rangers.
As part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration, this year’s event will highlight the role of the New River Gorge region and its contributions to American history.
The evening will begin with a ranger-led introduction exploring the origins and importance of Appalachian music and culture in the New River Gorge area. Guests will then enjoy living history presentations and performances by Doris Fields, Thomas Jude, Woodbine, and Mary Dailey.
The event is part of the park’s ongoing efforts to celebrate and preserve the diverse cultural traditions of Appalachia.
It is presented in partnership with Theatre West Virginia and sponsored by Friends of the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The program is made possible through the West Virginia 250 Events & Educational Initiative Grants Program.
