BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Fully vaccinated Beckley city employees will receive a $500 bonus after Beckley Common Council unanimously approved the incentive during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
City Attorney Bill File says the bonus is available for both full-time and part-time employees who can submit proof of their vaccination to the city’s Human Resource Office before 11 a.m. on November 2, 2021. Employees must have received two shots of the Moderna vaccine, two shots of the Pfizer vaccine or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
According to File, Councilman Tom Sopher asked council to consider such an incentive after the City of Charleston adopted a similar resolution.
“We feel that this is worthwhile to try and encourage employees to be fully vaccinated,” File said.
Councilman At-Large Cody Reedy stated that he voted in favor of the resolution because it uses American Rescue Plan Act funds and benefits city employees,
“I think it’s great,” said Mayor Rob Rappold after Tuesday’s vote. “We have already had two people on the fence about the vaccine take the first step in becoming vaccinated.”
