FAIRLEA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As you pass through Lewisburg on U.S. 219 and enter Fairlea, the imposing Dutch Wheel looms over the quaint town, signaling the arrival of a cherished time of year – fair season.
Concluding its ten-day extravaganza, the State Fair of West Virginia bids farewell for this year.
Over the past week and a half, thousands of attendees hailing from across the Mountain State converged upon Greenbrier County, eagerly partaking in a myriad of fair attractions including deep-fried delicacies, exhilarating rides, captivating games, and an engaging showcase of livestock animals.
Eclipsing many other allures, the renowned Reithoffer Shows Dutch Wheel claims its place as a prime spectacle within the fair’s offerings.
Rising to an impressive height of 100 feet, this towering carnival feature gifts fairgoers with unparalleled vistas encompassing the fairgrounds and the picturesque town of Fairlea that nestles around it.
Having been purchased by Reithoffer Shows – a traveling carnival enterprise that has set up at the State Fair of West Virginia since the 1990s – the Dutch Wheel became a prized possession in 1986.
Designed by the Dutch manufacturer Kroon, this expansive amusement ride accommodates up to 144 individuals at a time.
A cherished tradition spanning numerous years, the Dutch Wheel captivates both young and old alike, promising a serene and mesmerizing journey through the skies above Fairlea.
Particularly popular during the night, the wheel’s intricate light display serves as a visual spectacle in its own right.
As the curtains draw to a close on the 2023 State Fair of West Virginia, the Dutch Wheel – a symbol of enduring enjoyment and community spirit – will cease its rotations at 11 PM tonight.
