BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Gas prices across West Virginia are continuing an upward trend, with new data from AAA showing noticeable increases over the past week and month.
As of Saturday, the statewide average price for regular gasoline stands at $4.285 per gallon.
That marks a rise from $4.204 just one day earlier and a significant jump from $3.945 one week ago.
Compared to a month ago, when prices averaged $3.909, drivers are now paying nearly 40 cents more per gallon. The increase is even more pronounced compared to this time last year, when the average price was just $3.101 per gallon.
In the Beckley area, prices are slightly higher than the state average. The current average for regular gasoline in Beckley is $4.303 per gallon. That is up from $4.173 yesterday and $4.084 one week ago.
A month ago, Beckley drivers were paying about $3.966 per gallon, showing a steady climb in recent weeks. Compared to a year ago, when prices averaged $3.049, local residents are now paying more than $1.25 extra per gallon.
Other fuel grades are also seeing increases statewide. Mid-grade gasoline averages $4.703 per gallon, while premium fuel is at $5.138. Diesel prices remain the highest, currently averaging $5.659 per gallon across West Virginia.
The upward trend mirrors national patterns, with the U.S. average price for regular gasoline reaching $4.433 per gallon. AAA attributes recent spikes to rising oil prices, which have pushed fuel costs higher in a short period of time.
Historically, gas prices in West Virginia remain below their peak levels seen in June 2022, when regular gasoline reached a record average of $4.930 per gallon.
However, current prices are approaching those highs, raising concerns for drivers as summer travel season approaches.
With fuel costs climbing steadily, motorists in Beckley and across West Virginia may continue to feel the strain at the pump in the coming weeks if market pressures persist.
