LOUISVILLE, KY (LOOTPRESS) – GE Appliances has announced a major expansion at its global headquarters in Louisville with plans to build a new manufacturing facility dedicated to producing clothes washers.
The company is investing $490 million in the project and expects to create 800 new, full-time jobs.
The new facility will be located in Building 2 at Appliance Park and will expand the company’s clothes care production area to the size of 33 football fields.
According to GE, the site will serve as a state-of-the-art model for the appliance industry, incorporating automation, robotics, and advanced technologies like Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs).
The plant will manufacture more than 15 models of front load washers, which are being reshored from China.
It will be a vertically integrated operation, including in-house production of stainless steel baskets, cabinets, precision metal stamping, and injection molding. Production is expected to begin in 2027.
Among the products slated for the new lines are the GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer — a 2-in-1 unit that washes and dries clothes in the same drum in about two hours — and the GE Profile Front Load Washer with UltraFresh Vent System+, designed to combat odor buildup in front load machines.
To support the expansion, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) has given preliminary approval for performance-based incentives through the Kentucky Business Investment program.
GE Appliances is also eligible for workforce training grants and building modernization funds, pending fulfillment of job creation and investment goals.
