Charleston – Brining an 8-0 record at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center dating back to their freshman season at St. Joe, Huntington’s Dionna Gray and Imani Hickman were hoping for one last win to cement their legacies.
They did just that.
Gray scored a game-high 15 points and Hickman added 10 as the Highlanders finished off a 24-1 season with their second consecutive Class AAAA title, defeating No. 2 Morgantown 41-36 Saturday night in Charleston.
Gray led the charge for the Highlanders, burying a 3 that gave them a 15-14 lead at the break and running off six straight points for her team in the fourth that put them up four with under a minute to go.
The game marks the final in the career of Morgantown coach Jason White, who guided the Mohigans to three consecutive state championships during his tenure.
Morgantown finishes the season with a 22-3 record.
