Charleston – Cameron center Ashlynn Van Tassell scored 36 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, helping the defending state champions pull away from Pendleton County in the third quarter and earn a 79-59 victory Tuesday in the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Van Tassell’s effort helped the Dragons withstand a stellar one from Pendleton’s Ana Young who scored 43 points on 17 of 30 shooting in the loss.
Clinging to a five-point lead at the break, Cameron erupted for 32 points in the third quarter to secure the win.
Maci Neely added 17 points for the Dragons while Kenzie Clutter dished 11 assists.
Cameron advances to the state semis for the third consecutive season where it will face No. 5 Webster County on Friday at 1 p.m.
