FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help a Fayetteville man whose vehicle and belongings were lost after a failed culvert collapsed during heavy rainfall Tuesday, creating a hole that swallowed his car.
The vehicle belonged to Pax Jeffers, according to organizer Emily Jeffers, who said her brother had recently moved back to West Virginia and had most of his personal belongings inside the vehicle when it fell into the collapsed culvert near Maggie’s Pub.
In the fundraiser, Emily Jeffers said her brother lost not only his vehicle but also many of his possessions.
“I am sure you all have seen the sink hole/collapsed culvert that Tuesday’s storms created in Fayetteville and the car it swallowed,” she wrote. “That vehicle belonged to my brother, Pax Jeffers. Pax recently moved home to West Virginia and the majority of everything he owned was in that car. So he lost his car, his belongings and some hope that is future was gonna work out.”
She said insurance is expected to cover part of the vehicle’s value but not everything that was lost.
“I’m sure insurance will cover part of what the car is worth but he lost so much more than that,” Jeffers wrote.
According to the fundraiser, Pax Jeffers is currently between jobs. Emily Jeffers said the campaign was created to help him recover from the loss and to remind him that the community is behind him.
“I have started this go fund me to: 1. Help my brother recover what Mother Nature took from him. 2. To show him that sometimes hope comes in the way of a community rallying around you,” she wrote. “Every dollar and every share will help and be more appreciated that you know! That’s what this community is all about! Support, love and understanding!!!”
The vehicle was swallowed after a culvert collapsed beneath a parking area at Maggie’s Pub following heavy rain Tuesday evening. No injuries were reported.
