PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Tennessee man has landed himself in police custody on Friday following a high-speed pursuit on the Staunton Turnpike.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, February 2, 2024, Deputy B.G. Turner of the WCSO was dispatched in response to reports of a disorderly motorist traveling west.
HSEM E-911 provided a description of the vehicle involved – a silver Ford F-150 with Tennessee plates – which was reportedly swerving all over the roadway at a high rate of speed, nearly causing several accidents which would have impacted other vehicles on the road.
The F-150 was observed by Deputy Turner traveling westbound at high speeds and driving partially off the roadway multiple times.
Deputy Turner attempted to initiate a traffic stop, activating his siren and emergency lights. The driver of the truck failed to yield, however, beginning a westbound traffic pursuit along Robert Byrd Highway which continued west past the Division Street exit.
Sgt. W.A. Blatt of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office managed to place his own patrol vehicle directly in the path of the fleeing vehicle. Deputy Turner, along with Sgt. Blatt and Deputy A.N. Wood, were then able to utilize a rolling blockade to guide the F-150 to the right shoulder of the roadway without injury.
Responding officers made contact with the driver – identified as Randy Lloyd Grant of Tennessee – was found to be heavily intoxicated as he was removed from his vehicle and placed under arrest by Wood County Sheriff’s Deputies.
During a transport to the Wood County Holding Center for processing, Grant attempted to strike Deputy Turner, resulting in his being restrained in handcuffs and shackles prior to being taken before Magistrate Waters for arraignment.
Grant was arraigned on the charge of Fleeing in a vehicle while Driving Under the Influence and was issued a $150,000 surety bond, which he was unable to post. Grant was confined to the Wood County Holding Center following arraignment.
