PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has officially proclaimed May 11–17, 2025, as Salvation Army Week in recognition of the organization’s contributions to communities across the state and nation.
In celebration, The Salvation Army of Mercer County has announced a week of special events to honor its supporters and raise awareness of its ongoing mission to serve those in need.
The weeklong celebration kicks off Monday, May 12, with doughnut deliveries to local supporters—a tribute to the organization’s historic service of providing doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines during wartime.
On Tuesday, May 13, the public is invited to a “Meet and Greet” with Sergeant Melissa White and the Local Advisory Board at The Salvation Army’s Princeton location at 300 Princeton Avenue from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday will feature a community Bible study at noon, offering residents a chance to see how the organization supports people spiritually as well as physically.
On Thursday, May 15, the community is encouraged to wear red or a HOPE shirt in support of Salvation Army workers and donors.
Participants are asked to post photos on social media using the hashtag #Thesalvationarmyofmercercountyto spread awareness.
The week concludes Friday with the launch of the “A Thousand Blessings Challenge,” part of the organization’s “Christmas in July” campaign to support local families in need.
Salvation Army Week is recognized nationally as a time to honor the organization’s work.
In the past year alone, the Salvation Army served 166.7 million meals, provided 9.1 million nights of shelter, helped 3 million households with rent and utilities, and engaged 1.4 million volunteers across the U.S.
The organization’s message for the week is a simple but powerful call to action: “Love Beyond.” By loving beyond bills, shelter, or a single holiday, the Salvation Army seeks to offer hope and help to millions year-round.
The Salvation Army serves nearly 24 million Americans annually through a broad range of programs aimed at combatting poverty, addiction, and hardship.
