CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Patrick Morrisey has formally requested a Major Disaster Declaration for West Virginia following severe flooding across the state.
“After traveling to southern West Virginia to meet with local officials and assess the damage firsthand, I have asked President Donald Trump for a Major Disaster Declaration,” Morrisey said.
“This will help unlock federal resources to support West Virginians hardest hit by the major flooding events of the past few days.”
The governor is seeking activation of the Individual Assistance (IA) and Public Assistance (PA) programs for the hardest-hit counties, which include Boone, Cabell, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mercer, McDowell, Mingo, Raleigh, Summers, Wayne, and Wyoming.
He has also requested statewide assistance through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).
If approved, the declaration would provide federal resources to aid recovery efforts and help affected communities rebuild.
