CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey joined former President Donald J. Trump at the White House today for the signing of an executive order aimed at restricting transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
The order was signed on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
“I’m proud to stand alongside President Trump to protect women’s sports,” Morrisey said.
“Radical gender ideology has created an unsafe and unfair environment for female athletes, forcing them to compete against biological males. I am grateful that we now have a President who will fight to protect women and girls in sports and ensure they have their own private spaces.”
Morrisey also announced plans to propose additional state-level protections during the upcoming legislative session.
His proposals include defining terms such as “woman,” “man,” “girl,” and “mother” based on biological sex, allowing sex-based distinctions for facilities like locker rooms and domestic violence shelters, and preventing what he describes as unfair treatment or discrimination based on sex.
“I look forward to working with President Trump, Riley Gaines, and other leaders to advance our shared goals,” Morrisey added.
As former Attorney General, Morrisey led legal efforts to uphold West Virginia’s law requiring transgender athletes to compete based on their biological sex, a case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court.
He also successfully challenged the Biden administration’s expansion of Title IX protections to include gender identity.
