POINT PLEASANT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice on Tuesday made his way to the Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department for the signing of three bills in support of local fire services.
The stop is the latest of several from the Governor following the conclusion of the recent Special Session of the West Virginia Legislature at which supplemental appropriations for various state departments was a key issue.
Tuesday’s event saw the Governor address attendees in Point Pleasant as Senate Bill 1021, Senate Bill 1022, and Senate Bill 1023 we’re signed into law.
“Today is a monumental day,” said Governor Justice on Tuesday. “We did $10 million back for the EMS not long ago and we’re doing $12 million for the Volunteer Fire Departments.”
SB 1021, SB 1022, and SB 1023 each pertain to the supplemental appropriation of funds to emergency services in varying capacities.
“Governor Jim Justice shows unwavering support for our local fire services. Today, he signed Senate Bills securing $12 million in funding for our volunteer fire departments across West Virginia,” said the Teays Valley Fire Department.
“This vital boost is just the beginning, as Governor Justice promises ongoing support for our departments as the funds are one-time allotments. These funds are a much-needed boost, but we’ll keep fighting for sustained support in the future. Together, let’s ensure our firefighters have the resources they need to protect our communities.“
The venue which hosted the signing event, Point Pleasant Fire Department, also issued a statement expressing gratitude to Governor Justice for his ongoing support of emergency services in West Virginia.
”It was an honor and privilege to host Governor Justice for the signing of the funding bills today for the Fire Service,” read the statement.
“We want to Thank the Governor and all of our Legislators for making these bills happen and following them through to the signing.”
On Wednesday, Governor Justice will travel to Montgomery, WV for the signing of Senate Bill 1038, which provides $3,039,900 to the West Virginia National Guard for use at the Academy. This event will take place at the Mountaineer Challenge Academy at 10:30am.
