RONCEVERTE, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Greenbrier County man was arrested on April 13 after deputies responded to reports of gunfire and threatening behavior at a residence near Ronceverte.
At approximately 2:48 p.m., Deputy D.J. Staley of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Massy Road after a caller reported hearing gunshots and shouting, including threats such as “Kill me” and “I’ll kill you.” The caller identified the male voice as her neighbor, Chad Jeremy Wilson.
Upon arriving in the area, Deputy Staley was informed by a witness that she had also heard yelling followed by two gunshots. The deputy approached the property through the woods but retreated temporarily to request a more precise location and to take cover in case of further gunfire.
Officers identified the location as 503 Morgan Hollow Road, a residence known to law enforcement from previous incidents involving disturbances and welfare checks. Upon arrival, Deputy Staley observed Wilson sitting outside with a dog. When confronted, Wilson began walking toward the house, ignoring verbal commands to stop and show his hands.
Concerned that Wilson might be retrieving a weapon, Deputy Staley followed him into the residence. A physical struggle ensued as the deputy attempted to detain Wilson. The altercation moved to the porch, where Deputy Staley was struck by Wilson’s arm before gaining control and escorting him outside. Wilson briefly stood up after being taken down but was ultimately secured in the patrol vehicle.
Deputies searched the property but found no injured individuals or firearms.
Wilson was arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and obstructing an officer. He was transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center for evaluation due to complaints of wrist and knee pain. Following medical clearance, he was processed at the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department and then taken to Southern Regional Jail.
