FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Rupert man is facing felony drug and traffic charges after a traffic stop in the Ansted area allegedly led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Fayette County Magistrate Court, a law enforcement officer observed a gray Mercury sedan traveling east on U.S. Route 60 at approximately 1:14 p.m. on July 7.
The complaint states the vehicle’s occupants acted suspiciously, and the vehicle allegedly accelerated before turning onto an old Route 60 back road in what the officer believed was an attempt to avoid contact.
The complaint alleges the occupants switched positions inside the vehicle before the officer initiated a traffic stop.
After speaking with the occupants, the officer requested and received consent to search the vehicle, according to the complaint.
During the search, the officer allegedly found a container between the passenger seat and center console containing a clear baggie with approximately 8.7 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Anthony Martin, 55, of Rupert, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The complaint also states dispatch advised the officer that Martin’s driver’s license had been revoked due to an active DUI.
Martin was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department following his arrest.
The charges are allegations, and Martin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
