GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Greenbrier County woman is facing child abuse charges after her 17-year-old daughter, initially reported as a runaway, was found safe in South Carolina and alleged she fled home to escape ongoing abuse.
On Saturday, July 19, 2025, Deputy VanDyke with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office responded to an apartment on Davis Stuart Road after Rosa Isabel Izaguirre Martinez reported her daughter had been missing since July 2. Rosa said her daughter had dropped off her younger brother at a babysitter’s home and then went to Island Park in Ronceverte, where she was picked up by an unidentified male and hadn’t been seen since.
Deputies later learned that a man had dropped the girl off at the park that day. After several attempts to locate him, the man was found at his former place of employment, Mi Tequila Mexican Restaurant at the Greenbrier Valley Airport. He confirmed giving the victim a ride and said she was seeking help due to abuse at home.
Using the man’s phone, deputies made contact with the victim, who was staying with family friends in Greenville, South Carolina. She told deputies she fled because of ongoing abuse from her mother. She provided photos showing bruises from an alleged assault on June 22 and said she attempted to call 911 that day. She claimed her mother blocked the responding officer from entering and later threatened her with worse abuse if she had contacted police.
Greenbrier County 911 confirmed receiving a 911 call from the victim on June 22, during which she reported being hit because she was “not a virgin anymore” and stated that her mother had a history of verbal and physical abuse. She also told deputies that a Child Protective Services report had already been filed through a teacher at her younger brother’s school.
Based on the seriousness of the allegations, Greenbrier County prosecutors advised deputies to allow the victim to remain at the safe location in South Carolina while the investigation unfolds. Prosecutors also authorized the arrest of Rosa Izaguirre Martinez, who is now being charged with one count of child abuse.
