HINTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two people were arrested Thursday after the Summers County Sheriff’s Office investigated what authorities described as a suspected narcotics transaction in Hinton.
According to the Summers County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Justin Faris was conducting proactive patrols in the Temple Street area when he observed what appeared to be a suspected drug transaction and initiated an investigation.
As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested Ernie Cook and Tiffany Cales. Authorities said investigators recovered multiple items commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics. Deputies also seized quantities of suspected fentanyl and marijuana, along with a significant amount of U.S. currency believed to be connected to the alleged illegal activity.
The sheriff’s office said that while Cook was in custody, he received a text message from an individual attempting to place an order for illegal narcotics.
“Fortunately, that delivery will not be taking place today,” the sheriff’s office said.
Cook has been charged with delivery of fentanyl and conspiracy to deliver fentanyl.
Cales has been charged with delivery of marijuana and conspiracy to deliver fentanyl.
Both are being held at Southern Regional Jail pending court proceedings.
The Summers County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Summers County Probation Office for its assistance during the investigation, saying partnerships between law enforcement agencies continue to play an important role in combating illegal drug distribution.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
