Perhaps this should have been “Gregory’s Web for March 2022” since production became so sporadic. But we are back to planning an every Sunday publication.
It’s no secret that I have been Ill for most of the month. But I am now better and aim to stay that way for a while.
I suspect my recovery is due to folks like Paul Hartling undoubtedly spending hours on his knees interceding on my behalf. He probably intersperses pleas for me while explaining to God that local political committee rules exceed state law.
It’s such an interesting concept.

But seriously, thanks to all who have spoken to their Higher Power on my behalf. I do believe in an all-powerful God who does all things well. He just doesn’t need my advice to get it done.
My sincere readers, listeners, and friends: I am truly humbled and honored by your support. It took literally four hours to read all the written get-well messages.
You are my heroes. Meanwhile, after three weeks at CAMC’s General Division and I am alive and very well.

It’s great for Charlestonians to have good hospitals in CAMC and St. Francis/Thomas.
For years, citizens have debated which is the best facility. Both, I think, are very good but I’d prefer spending my time at St. Francis. The friendliness of the staff gives St. Francis/Thomas a big edge.
I promise. We’ll talk about my hospital stay in a later column. Stay tuned. If I can name names and tell it like it is in politics, I can do the same with my hospital care.

Among the nice messages I received, one came from Democrat Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango. In addition to being quite a mover and shaker, he’s just a good guy.

He’s proof that a Democrat can be a great public servant after all.

He did it again.
Cabell County restauranteur and Republican Delegate John Mandt Jr. destroyed his quest to be appointed to the county commission.
In case you missed it, Mandt voted to raise the salary of commissioners. That vote appears to have eliminated him from his effort to be appointed to the late Nancy Cartmill’s vacancy. By voting on a county officials pay raise bill emoluments clause.
Mandt, whose political instincts put him on the level with Larry, Moe and Curly Joe, seems to have eliminated service as county commissioner by voting for a county officials’ pay raise bill
” Writt v Underwood,” a political consultant wrote to me.” He should’ve walked out during the vote. Pulled a Worrell.”
The reference is to a highly controversial bill Delegate Evan Worrell walked out before voting.
Mandt has a strong desire to be powerful. That desire seems to sometimes cause him to suffer poor judgment. Here, violation of  Writt v Underwood is the issue.

One thing about Mandt: his odd political machinations bring him political attention. Maybe that’s what he wants?
