(LOOTPRESS) – A tropical depression is likely to form in the southwestern Gulf of America within the next couple of days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The disturbance, known as AL92, is producing scattered showers and thunderstorms that remain disorganized. Conditions are only somewhat favorable for development, but forecasters give the system an 80% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within both the next 48 hours and the next seven days.
The system is expected to move slowly east-northeast through the middle of the week before turning north.

It is too early to determine where it could move ashore or what effects it might bring to the northern Gulf Coast. Residents and visitors along the coast should monitor forecast updates as the system develops.

The 80% figure refers to the chance of the system developing into a tropical cyclone—not the chance of a hurricane or a direct hit at any particular location.
