BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS)– CrossFit Coal will remember soldiers on Memorial Day Weekend with a dedicated workout.
CrossFit owner, Chip Williams says this national workout honors Navy Seal Michael “Murph” Murphy who lost his life on a mission in Afghanistan on June of 2008. The mission was also reenacted in the movie: Lone Survivor starring Mark Wahlberg.
“It’s a really good way to start Memorial Day to focus on what Memorial Day is about, about the sacrifice of the men and women who gave their lives in the military,” said Williams.
The “Murph” workout features a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and ends with another one mile run while wearing a 20 pound weighted vest. Williams wants residents to know that anyone at his gym can have this workout tailored to meet all athletic levels and should take about 45 minutes to an hour.
This workout event hosts about 60 residents annually. CrossFit Coal will open at 9:00 am on Memorial Day and will start out by honoring the men and women in the country. Williams will also talk about one of the men that also died trying to rescue Murphy and others in the same mission. The workout will not start until 9:30 am. After the workout, the gym will host a Memorial Day cookout starting around 11:30 am.
The Murph workout is free to all participants. CrossFit Coal is located at 250 Depot St, Beckley, WV 25801
